ArenaNet revealed more details about what to expect in terms of content now that the Living World concept is retired.

ArenaNet is moving to a model where they will release smaller expansions for Guild Wars 2 on a more frequent basis which means major changes to the release details are in order.

First, the expansions will now be cheaper and the latest studio update noted the price will be lower than the current expansion cost ($30 / €30) which is quite interesting without having to pay for subsequent narrative episodes which was the case with Living World.

With that in mind, the scope of the expansions will also change.

They will bring two new maps and two new strike missions each time, along with new gameplay and combat features and masteries.

Each expansion will then be followed by updates every three months, bringing along story chapters, an additional map, strike challenge mode, new fractals and more additions to masteries and similar features. All of that will depend on the new expanios' release cadence and how much time and resources can be allocated to delivering these updates.

Expansion cycles should now be based on one year of content instead of having to wait randomly between two and four years for a new big drop. This definitely sounds like more resources will be needed to keep it up and ArenaNet has already been preparing for it.

They have been recruiting more developers in content and system design teams since the start of 2023 to keep up with the increased workload which should help with the release schedule.
