ArenaNet posted an update on the state of the studio and Guild Wars 2, leaving a pretty optimistic image for the future.
Guild Wars 2 was recently enriched by an expansion, End of Dragons, which was apparently a major success for ArenaNet as it surpassed the numbers achieved by Path of Fire, the expansion before that.
This is partially a result of the team's new focus on long-term changes, which apparently resulted in the community growth over the past three years that provided a doubling of the number of active GW2 players. It is currently unknown which metrics were used to measure the player numbers and it's possible alt accounts were counted as well. Still, it's close to impossible they are the sole reason for the booming numbers in the GW2 community.
Anyway, all of this positive reinforcement encouraged ArenaNet to pledge to long-term support of GW2 and as such, the team confirmed they are working on the fourth expansion for the game. They added this is only a very early confirmation so news won't be popping up in the near future.
Besides End of Dragons being fresh off the shelves, another reason for this is that ANet will be working on more content within said expansion as the story develops further and more goodies are added, including a completely new map in Cantha.
