Gears of War 1 which was released back in 2006, is getting a visual makeover once again and the first release on a PlayStation console. Microsoft announced that one of their best and most beloved exclusives is being re-released as Gears of War: Reloaded on August 26, 2025, for $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
The game will also be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Those who own the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get to upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded for free.
Here's what to expect from Gears of War: Reloaded
- 4K resolution
- 60 FPS in Campaign
- 120 FPS in Multiplayer
- High Dynamic Range (HDR)
- Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
- 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
- 4K assets and remastered textures
- Enhanced post-processing visual effects
- Improved shadows and reflections
- Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing
- Zero loading screens during the Campaign
Some rumours suggested that Microsoft are preparing a Gears of War Collection, which would include all Gears of War games remastered and released across all platforms but for now, we're only getting the first Gears game.
The release on PlayStation does not come as a surprise to anyone who followed Microsoft's strategy lately. All of their games will be coming to PlayStation 5 in the future so the company is trying to introduce their older titles to PlayStation fans before the upcoming games, like Gears E-Da,y for example.
A bold move, but one that is already bringing them a lot of money, as top 3 best selling games on PlayStation 5 in April 2025 were Xbox's first-party titles.
