Gears of War 4 will see Crossplay move from the Social to the Ranked playlists. The change won't come right away, but over the course of the next few months. Xbox players will be able to choose whether they want to play against the Windows 10 players or not.
It's not news that Gears of War 4 is getting Crossplay. Whish aspect of the game is getting it? That's the news.
The game has had Crossplay support in its social playlists for some time now. The Crossplay they are planning to implement will let the Windows 10 players play with Xbox One players.
The biggest problem with the Crossplay mode is that it's restricted to Social event, and many PC Core and Competitive players are having trouble finding matches.
The Coalition have announced the solution: updates which will grant Windows 10 players access to the Core and Competitive play. Available right now, is the Ranked Play option. This is the first step towards the Crossplay of the future.
For now, the "Ranked And Filed" and "Seriously 4.0" achievements are unavailable as they require a rank in all playlists. When the May update rolls around, you can consider this problem solved. The achievements will then "only require placement in one Core and one Competitive playlist."
Players from both platforms will be able to play together "and compete for Ranks in any Core and Competitive playlist".
The reason this change is not yet implemented:
"Core and Competitive are key experiences in Gears of War 4 that offer a more skill-based matchmade environment. While we know many of our players will enjoy playing against their opponents regardless of platform, we also know many of our players will want to ensure a level playing field - and that means keeping their opponents on the same platform as they are."
The developers will add a "Ranked Crossplay" toggle available to the Xbox players. This will enable them to choose whether they want to do a Ranked Play event with Windows 10 players or not. Social, Competitive Warm Up and Special Events will remain Crossplay enabled at all times.
No dates have been mentioned, but we're sure that The Coalition will roll these updates out as soon as they are ready.
