Playground Games has officially unveiled Forza Horizon 6, confirming the long-awaited Japanese setting that fans have been requesting for years. Microsoft's open-world racing game will launch in 2026 exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC before making its way to PlayStation 5 in a post-launch release.
The announcement marks a significant moment for the franchise, as Japan has consistently topped fan polls for desired Forza Horizon locations. According to Playground, players can expect to explore an authentic recreation of Japan's diverse landscapes, from the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to the country's iconic mountain passes and rolling hills that have defined Japanese car culture for decades.
Seasons return
The team also confirmed that they are building on the successful seasonal system introduced in Forza Horizon 4, meaning that the sixth entry will feature enhanced visuals that will showcase Japan's stunning seasonal transformations. Cherry blossoms in spring, vibrant autumn foliage, and snowy mountain serpentines roads will provide dynamic backdrops as players work toward becoming a Legend at the Horizon Festival, which is also returning.
Available on Game Pass
The game will be available day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, continuing Microsoft's commitment to the subscription service. The inclusion of PlayStation 5 in the post-launch roadmap also represents a continuation of Xbox's multiplatform strategy, bringing the beloved racing series to Sony's console once again after Forza Horizon 5 rode in to PS5 earlier this year.
Playground Games and Forza Motorsport studio Turn 10 Studios are once again collaborating to ensure the game meets the high standards fans expect from the beloved franchise.
All in all, it's safe to say that with Japan's rich automotive heritage and diverse geography, from urban circuits to mountain touge runs, Forza Horizon 6 appears poised to deliver the most culturally immersive experience in the series yet.
The game is now available for wishlisting on Microsoft Store and Steam, with more details promised early next year as development continues toward the 2026 launch window.
