The strange lightning that has disproven the old adage of lightning never striking twice, in Fortnite at least, has produced a mysterious cube that's just sitting there. Well, that's unless you attack it, in which case it gets a bit irked.
You can find the cube on one of the desert rocks between Fortnite's Paradise Palms and Fatal Fields and from what I've seen, it seems to be reacting to whatever you dish out at it. If you land on it right from the bus, it acts as a trampoline, bouncing you innocently enough.
Try to attack it while you're bouncing though and it'll shoot you into the sky. Don't be hoping your glider opens either, because you've just bought yourself a one way ticket to Fortnite's lobby. Same goes if you attack it with weapons, because this cube ain't messing around. Well, it is, but it's not particularly funny when you're the recipient.
Interestingly, each bounce on the cube replenishes your shield by a single point, so if you're not too keen on getting weapons, you can max out your shield on the cube, singing Kumbaya or whatnot. Shooting it, on the other hand, produces a lighting that's every bit as good-willed as your attempt to harm it, i.e. hello lobby.
Now, it's still too early to talk about Season 6, even though Epic are obviously already firing up the hype engine. After all, Fortnite's Season 5 took a while, even though it wasn't lacking mysterious events such as this.
FNBRLeaks had uncovered some game files pointing to the cube as the second rocket event, which would suggest that it will be the centre of whatever happens at the end of Season 5. Naturally, we're bound to see and hear more before then.
On a related note, Epic have updated their State of Development blog , announcing that Summer Skirmish events have been a huge hit and that Fortnite's development team "recently began [working on] a robust competition system", which should be in "later this Fall".
