Fortnite has had a massive player resurgence with the launch of Fortnite OG, a mode where the game was reverted to the vanilla status, with the original map and weapons for people to play with.
Sine Epic Games hit the nail on the head with this one, the game immediately received a massive influx of players.
This contrasted the poor decision-making over at Blizzard where they announced World of Warcraft Classic will head into Cataclysm expansion.
The expansion is accepted by many by the point where things went downhill for the ever-popular MMO and the company is still trying to push it.
Back at Epic Games' turf, they are reaping the rewards of their good calls as Fortnite peaked at 6,172,463 concurrent players over the launch weekend. Such a thing hasn't happened ever since fortnite.gg started tracking concurrent players back in April 2023.
For reference, the previous peak during 2023 was 2,817,867 in August 2023, which means the game more than doubled its best performance of the year with one good release.
Now it only remains to be seen whether Blizzard will go Bungie's way of dealing with bad decisions - by firing employees who had nothing to do with it.
