Fortnite publisher Epic Games have today announced the acquisition of Brasilian video game developer Aquiris, known for titles like Wonderbox and Horizon Chase.
Epic Games are expanding to Latin America. Today, the publisher of globally the popular title Fortnite and the popular game dev tool Unreal Engine have announced the acquisition of Brasil-based game studio Aquiris.
In case you haven't heard about Aquiris and their games, the studio are best known for games like Wonderbox and the Horizon Chase franchise. The acquisition comes following an investment that Epic Games made in Aquiris in early 2022.
Epic say that the Aquiris team will be the start of Epic Games Brasil, which will be the first Epic studio in Latin America. Epic say the Aquiris team will work on creating "groundbreaking content and social experiences within Fortnite."
CEO of Aquiris, Mauricio Longoni said that the studio are delighted to work with Unreal Engine and contribute to the future of Fortnite.
"Joining Epic Games builds on our successes in creating memorable games including Wonderbox, Horizon Chase 2 and Looney Tunes World of Mayhem, which we will continue to operate. We are delighted to leverage our experience using Unreal Engine on game development to contribute to the future of Fortnite," he said.
Epic Games' Alain Tascan added that they've seen firsthand the talent at Aquiris and are excited to welcome the studio to Epic Games.
With the acquisition of Aquiris, Epic Games will look forward to tapping into the Latin America region to establish a bigger presence there, which is certainly great news.
