Bethesda have announced that Fallout 76 will finally get human NPCs and hopefully a story that is not a lazy attachment we experience through audio logs. Another update will bring a 52-player battle royale no one really asked for.
Fallout 76 is getting a pile of content in the future, Wanderers and Nuclear Winter among them. The former refers to literal wanderers who will be human NPCs that the players can interact with and possibly get more lore and missions from.
Bethesda's decision not to include them in the base game was heavily criticised as it removed a lot of story and character depth that the Fallout franchise was known for. Besides, listening to extremely long holotape recordings was really annoying and lacked proper features like pause and would get cut off in combat.
Thankfully, the interaction with the NPCs will take a step back from the infamous dialogue wheel and will have proper skill checks. The example shown in the trailer above has Charisma and Perception checks, which is something Fallout 4 lacked.
However, there is still the question of whether the content will be shoehorned or actually developed properly. Keep in mind Fallout 76 is an online game where you share the world with other players and as such, the decision you make may not have meaningful consequence.
Wastelanders saw mostly positive reception since everyone welcomed the addition of RPG elements in a game that had roots in an RPG franchise. Nuclear Winter is the opposite story though.
This update will add battle royale to Fallout 76. People memed about this but never really asked for the mode and that is evident from the reactions to the announcement video shown below.
The like to dislike ratio is abysmal but nothing new for Fallout 76 that suffered major PR issues ever since it came to be. Players will duke it out in a 52-player battle royale and the reward is apparently being appointed as the Overseer of Vault 52.
