Playground Games' upcoming fantasy RPG Fable will run on the ForzaTech engine that is used in Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport games. The engine is being expanded to support Fable's open world.
Last year, Xbox's studio Playground Games, who we know as the developers of the Forza Horizon series, revealed a brand new Fable game with a CGI trailer. Many were surprised to see a studio that specialises in racing games taking on an open-world action RPG but Playground have become one of the biggest Xbox studios over the last years and with Forza being such a successful franchise, Xbox decided to give them another ambitious project in Fable.
Little is known about the upcoming Fable thought, but today, we have confirmation that the game will be running on Xbox's ForzaTech engine, which powers both Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series of games.
The engine has been updated with new features like ray tracing and the team are also "enriching the toolset to support an open-world action RPG – Fable" according to the job listing here.
The listing also confirms that Turn 10 Studios, the developer of the Forza Motorsport series are helping the development of Fable.
Interestingly the job listing also states that three AAA games are currently in development across two beloved Xbox franchises, which suggests that the rumoured Forza Horizon 5 game could indeed be in development.
As you may know, GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb already revealed that such a game is coming later this year and will be set in Mexico. An exciting year for Xbox fans, indeed!
