Blizzard have confirmed that Diablo 4 features a full cross-play and cross-progression support across all platforms including PC and consoles.
Diablo 4 will feature a full-scale cross-play between PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S , Blizzard confirmed in the latest Q and A on Twitter. Players will be able to matchmake with each other regardless of their preferred platform.
This basically means that if you own a PlayStation console, you can play with people on an Xbox console or PC , which is certainly great news for all Diablo fans who have friends playing on different platforms.
But the good news doesn't stop there. Blizzard also confirmed that a full-scale cross-progression is in the game, meaning you can play Diablo 4 on multiple devices and progress the same character. So for example, you can play on your Xbox console and then pick up where you left off on your PlayStation console or PC. Very neat!
This will certainly be helpful for those who have multiple devices. The only downside is that you'll have to buy the game more than once but we doubt that those who own a PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox will have a problem with that.
While some would argue that full cross-play and cross-progression should be a mandatory feature for every live service multiplatform game, implementing such systems can be a very difficult task so hats off to Blizzard for making it work.
Diablo 4 is officially hitting the shelves on June 2, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Blizzard will host an open beta later this month, giving the players a chance to try the game before buying. You can hear more about the beta below.
