Bungie are often coming under fire for employing fear of missing out (FOMO) in Destiny 2 too much and now it seems this will be dealt with in Season 12.
This Week At Bungie featured some things that are probably going to make many Guardians happy as Bungie are decreasing FOMO. One thing they are focused on is preserving activities for an entire year so players who join up later don't miss out on activities from the past seasons. In other words, players will now be able to experience activities and story from the past seasons all year long.
There will still be some limits and some content will have to be removed. Bungie noted that stories will have to end in order to let new ones grow in their place. The reasons cited for this are listed as "technical, resourcing, as well as from an overarching universe design standpoint". They still noted that finding the balance of creating and maintaining content in their current narrative "is a necessary part of continuing to build on Destiny 2".
Since the activities are basically another way of getting the sweet loot we all crave, it will have to remain in order to make legacy activities relevant. Bungie agrees on this point and the loot will still be obtainable, despite some other changes coming into place. For example, the way to get the drops will be different since narratively Osiris has left the building already.
it remains to be seen when Destiny 3 is going to come along as many are speculating the game is already in development and that it's siphoning D2's resources but since Bungie confirmed Year 4, it will still be some time before we see a new instalment in the series.
