Bungie revealed all the necessary details regarding the release time of the upcoming expansion to Destiny 2, including the caveat for PlayStation 4 players.

Destiny 2 will spend a long time offline before The Witch Queen actually releases, which may irritate a few players but let's hope this translates into a stable release without too many queues.

Bungie will bring the game down on Monday, February 21, 2022, at:

  • 6:45 PM PT
  • 9:45 ET
  • 2:45 AM (Feb 22) UTC
  • 3:45 AM (Feb 22) CET

The downtime will go on for just over 14 hours and the servers will be brought back up on February 22, 2022, at:

  • 9:00 AM PT
  • 12:00 PM (noon) ET
  • 5:00 PM UTC
  • 6:00 PM CET

The game is planned to be playable at this point but queues are probably inescapable for the time being. Meanwhile, pre-loads will be available on all platforms during the downtime so if you want to rush in as soon as the servers open, you might want to get the download out of the way first.

While the servers are scheduled to go up at the aforementioned time, the actual maintenance is scheduled to finish one hour later.

PS4 players will also need to download all the required content before playing The Witch Queen. The download will commence after launching Destiny 2 following the release of patch 4.0.0.1. At that point, you can close the game and the download will continue in the background. Bungie warns it will be a chunky bit of data.

On the flip side, the install size should actually go down so it will probably save up a few GBs on your storage.
