Bungie announced the way the Light level will work in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, which is not unfamiliar to the existing players but they might be looking at some changes for the hard cap.

Destiny 2 Light level doesn't matter for most of the game but if you're hoping to get into endgame activities, you will need to understand the caps well and push all the way to the hard cap.

Bungie offered a quick rundown of these numbers for everyone looking to jump into the expansion:

  • Floor - 1350
  • Soft Cap - 1500
  • Power Cap - 1550
  • Hard Cap - 1560

If you're not sure what these numbers mean, don't worry, we've got you boo. Floor is the lowest Light level at which the gear drop. Not a single piece of armour nor a weapon will drop below 1350 once Witch Queen launches.

From the Floor and all the way up to the Soft Cap of 1500, your gear score (Light level) will increase with every drop you find, no matter the source. After 1500, your gear score will increase only when you gain items through Powerful, Exotic or Pinnacle Engrams. When you reach the Power cap, only Pinnacle engrams can boost your level, as well as the occasional Exotic drop you come across.

Those who are pursuing the highest Light level they can reach might have to chase a few activities they may not be used to.

Bungie didn't specifically say what these are but they did note the team wants players to engage with newer expansion and seasonal content.
