Checkmate is still being moulded by Bungie as the devs announced another round of changes for certain weapon types, leaving Destiny 2's latest PvP novelty ever-evolving.
Even though the players already like the modifier, Bungie did note some feedback with issues surrounding it, which allows the devs to iterate and improve until it possibly becomes a permanent addition.
In any case, 140 RPM hand cannons will be able to three-tap any Resilience once more in the near future, although the exact damage numbers to the head and body have not been revealed.
Rapid-fire pulse rifles will require three bursts to kill a Guardian with six or more Resilience while high-impact pulse rifles will be able to two-burst those with four resilience. That said, they will need to land all crits for this to happen.
Finally, there is the reduction to the heavy ammo spawn frequency, solidifying the modifier's intent to force more primary ammo gunfights and fewer one-shots.
According to the devs, Checkmate will remain in Labs for the rest of the season which will lead to additional rounds of Control and Survival with Checkmate enabled.
Unfortunately, there is no info about Bungie's plans after that but it's not excluded we will see more Checkmate and possibly see it more often.
