The Royal Court expansion is the project developers of Crusader Kings 3 have been working for quite some time now. It encompasses a lot of areas of the game, but there seem to be some unforeseen setbacks in the development.
In the most recent developer diary, the developers have stated that work on the Royal Court expansion is progressing, and it's looking better each day that passes. However, they want to be upfront and say that it's going to take longer than many of us expect for the expansion to be released.
There are many reasons for this, but it can be summed up to the fact that the expansion is very technically challenging and developers are doing things they've never done before from the ground up. They want a Royal Court that looks as grand as the mechanics that support it.
There have been new additions to the team, as well as the team itself splitting into three different offices. We can see how this would impact the development process of the expansion. However, that is only in the short term. In the long-term, when the team gets their work coordination to the previous level, with more hands working on the project, there will be fewer mishaps, and the expansion itself will be what Crusader Kings 3 needs, and more.
As for the Royal Court itself, the developers have left us with a teaser that shows how the 3D version of the court itself looks like currently, fueling our desire for the expansion even more.
The Royal Court expansion, with all its changes, updates, and additions to the game, will surely make the medieval society that we all spend so much time in, feel more alive, and give us an authentic feeling of what it was like to be born and alive in that period of time, as one of noble blood, of course.
