Bungie have raised almost half a million dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during a charity stream that was a part of Guardian Con. The donations started pouring in at an unexpected rate which led to several broken records.

Bungie are pulling all the right moves lately with Destiny 2 getting a free to play overhaul, migration to Steam, cross-platform saving and a pile of other good news. The latest in the string are their exploits at Guardian Con during a charity stream.

Guardian Con originally started as another gaming convention, focused on Destiny, but later it became a fully fledged charity streaming marathon along the lines of Games Done Quick.

Bungie's live stream initially had a more humble goal of $150,000 across the four hours they were doing the show but the end result was a fantastic display of crushing set goals and overachieving in good faith. In the end, they raised $406,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

This milestone broke several records, one of which is the most money raised in a single block of the event. One interesting is straight from Dragon Ball Z since there were over 9,000 donations that contributed to the total sum. It averaged at one donation every 1.6 seconds for the entirety of the four hours.

The donation fever was even more potent during the first 30 minutes of the though, with one donation every 0.42 seconds which definitely looked bonkers on Twitch. Bungie folks were trying to read each donation out loud and they started sounding like auction announcers at that point.

One of the community managers vowed to eat a slice of bread for every $10,000 donated which resulted in 40 slices in the end and he went through with it. Kudos.

While the donation block was massive, it was not enough to reach the $3 million goal of the event but there is still time until 23 June 2019. At the time of writing, the donation counter was at $2,529,635.
