There's some loot-a-licious news from Bungie today, as the developer announced increased Season of the Drifter weapon drop rates coming in the v2.2.1 update. Along with that, there will be mechanisms in place to prevent dropless streaks.
It's not a late April Fools' joke either, which Bungie reiterated via Twitter, just in case someone thinks they're yanking their chain.
So, Destiny 2's update v.2.2.1 will be increasing the drop rates of weapons in The Reckoning, as well as introducing some new mechanisms to ensure players don't have prolonged dry runs.
Firstly, most of the arsenal will be added to the Gambit Prime loot pool, which the dev claims will increase ways to earn Season of the Drifter weapons.
Bungie wrote that most weapons will have a chance to drop in Gambit Prime matches, but your chances will also stack to a certain extent should you walk away lootless.
This means that for every The Reckoning and Gambit Prime match you-you don't get a drop, chances for the next one just increased. "Eventually, you will be guaranteed a drop", they wrote.
Note that Gnawing Hunger, Just In Case and Doomsday "will remain as exclusive drops in the Reckoning".
For what it's worth, Bungie's life without Activision seems to be going fairly well for now, which is not something the latter can say. Granted, if the publisher is to be believed, Destiny 2 wasn't really helping their financial case so it's a win-win in a sense.
Activision Blizzard ultimately had to resort to layoffs to address the record revenue in 2018, yeah, you read that right, so Bungie split just in time, with Destiny 2 rights no less.
Players seem pretty happy though for the most part, as some of these weapons have apparently been notoriously hard to get.
