Embark has confirmed that Arc Raiders will not feature console-only crossplay for PlayStation 5 and Xbox, leaving players with discontent over the matchmaking system in the game.

Arc Raiders is a sci-fi extraction shooter from the creators of The Finals, Embark Studios. The game is slated for release on October 30, 2025, across all platforms. Ahead of the game's official release, players are gearing up for the upcoming server slam to test out the game in an almost finished state.

As we get ready for the game's full release, the devs are sharing crucial details about the game, including the game's matchmaking and crossplay system. While the game will feature a robust crossplay system for all platforms, it seems like there will not be a console-only crossplay system for PlayStation 5 and Xbox players.

With the absence of console-only matchmaking, players are forced to play with PC players as a part of the usual crossplay system we are used to seeing in games. Unfortunately, this decision has left players with discontent, as console-only matchmaking is a major aspect for PlayStation 5 and Xbox players.

No Console-Only Matchmaking in Arc Raiders

Unfortunately, Embark has confirmed that Arc Raiders will not feature console-only matchmaking for PlayStation 5 and Xbox players. Instead of playing in console-only lobbies, players will have to stick to their platform-only matchmaking if they choose to disable crossplay, which means PlayStation 5 players will only match up against other players on the same platform, and vice versa for Xbox players.

Most modern titles feature console-only matchmaking to allow players to avoid MnK or PC players, as they face a massive disadvantage when it comes to aiming. Moreover, cheating is a rampant issue which is mostly present due to PC players. Adding more fuel to the fire, MnK is disabled for console lobbies, which means players strictly have to stick to their system controllers for the game.

In a recent post in the PlayStation 5 sub-reddit, players were seen discussing how the matchmaking system works in Arc Raiders. The absence of a console-only crossplay system led to players showing their discontent.

Another player stated, "I hate to say it, but with shooters, PC players just ruin every single game for me. If I’m using a controller, I don’t want to play with people on keyboard and mouse or cheaters. Just being honest on my preference." As cheating is a rampant issue for most shooter titles out there, console players usually have the liberty to use the console-only crossplay or matchmaking to avoid PC players. However, in Arc Raiders, they either have to opt for the usual crossplay lobby or only use their platform-only matchmaking system to play the game, which severely limits their matchmaking pool.

As another player commented, "Extraction is too brutal a genre. Losing hours of progress to PC cheaters is a quick way to kill your game." While lots of players are excited to play Arc Raiders, Embark's choice to not include a console-only crossplay system will only backfire for them in the long run if there is a cheating plague due to PC being included in their usual crossplay system.
