Have you ever wondered what those Golden toaster parts are supposed to do? Or where to get Verchitin armour? This guide answers both of those questions.
Wasteland 3 is full of little secrets that you might miss but you are bound to stumble upon a golden toaster part or two. The name itself is enough to prompt one to ask themselves what this thing is all about.
Well, when put together with the rest of the golden parts, it will take you to a place that awards the tankiest armour in the game, pictured above. Yup, the same one they thought is a myth back in Wasteland and Wasteland 2.
Golden toaster part locations
There are five golden toaster parts in total and they are all located inside regular toasters that you need to repair. The earliest one you can get to is located at the Hoon Homestead. It is the location you can visit as soon as you drive the Kodiak for the first time. Regardless of whether you choose to help the Hoons or the Arapaho convoy, you will be able to visit the location, close to Colorado Springs, and get the first component - Molded Gold Toaster Case.
The next closest part is in Wesson residence in Broadmoor Heights. You will gain access to this location by either having the Patriarch invite you or by having Lucia Wesson in your party and visiting the gate in south-western Colorado Springs. The house will be immediately to the south as you enter Broadmoor and this is where you will locate Gold Insulated Power Cord.
Gold Infused Mica Sheeting is located in the Paint Mines. You will gain access to this location by visiting Ranger HQ after completing the main story mission in Denver. Three women will approach you and ask to help them find the whereabouts of the family members that went away to a labour camp.
After accepting the mission from them, go to Sans Luxe apartments in Colorado Springs and interrogate Frank Pappas. He will not give up the info easily so you will need to pass some Hard Ass or Kiss Ass speech checks or pay him. After that's done, you will get a new location on the World Map.
Hop into the Kodiak, go to the Paint Mines and turn left where you will have to battle a few Growlers. After cleaning them up, approach the RV, fix the toaster and claim your sheeting.
When you're done with the Disappeared mission, you can proceed to Aspen. Kill the Breathers outside, go into the building behind them, kill all the Breathers there and proceed to the northeastern corner of the Visitor Center. You will find a broken toaster there and repairing it will yield Gold Plated Nichrome Wire.
To claim Bi-Metallic Gold Alloy Filament, which is the last required part, you will need to proceed with the Aspen mission until you are through the gondola. Upon loading the next screen, you will see a man about to be roasted alive. Save and send him on his way. You can also complete the Aspen mission if you want since you are close to its finale anyway.
After leaving Aspen, report the results of your mission to the Patriarch, go back to Ranger HQ, upgrade Kodiak's chassis to Dominator and into the World Map again. Travel southeast until you reach the third bridge from the left on the world map. It is just east of The Bizarre on the map, as seen below.
This part can get buggy sometimes and the radio call may not happen, rendering you unable to visit the ranch. You can try visiting the Cannibal Jamboree in the northwestern part of the map to accept the Head Hunter mission and force the radio call to happen that way. If where the location is, you can also check out this world map with the legend .
Once you finally make it to the ranch, kill the gang that's attacking them and proceed into the barn. You will see a ladder leading up to a broken toaster where you can find the last golden part.
Upon acquiring the five parts, you will get a prompt telling you that a new location has been marked on the World Map. Before you hop back into the Kodiak, make sure to accept the Ranch Leader's quest to eradicate the frogs behind the barn - you can loot the Retirer here, one of the best handguns in the game.
After that, just pack up and proceed to the Toaster Repair Academy which is now visible on the World Map, loot all the chests there for some high-grade gear and eventually the Verchitin Armor. It offers the highest protection of any armour in the game but you may still prefer the Exoskeleton set for melee characters.
Furthermore, don't forget to interact with the altar - it will give you a brand new companion that uses a flamethrower.
