Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2—How to save Thomas

As part of the main quest For Whom the Bells Tolls, you'll need to find a way to heal Captain Thomas's feaver for him to testify and save Sir Hans from gallows. Here is how to do it properly.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the latest RPG from Warhorse Studios, is a game where you'll be doing a lot of quests, and whether those quests are main or side ones, you'll enjoy every single one of them because they're all masterfully written.

Even though the majority of quests are designed in a straightforward manner where you just have to follow  the quest markers and decide which path to choose, one main quest slightly differs and uses a bit different design. This quest is called For Whom the Bells Tolls, and in this quest, you'll be tasked with saving Sir Hans from the gallows by healing Captain Thomas, who can testify and plead his innocence.

To do this, you'll have to find the formula for the fever potion, brew one, and bring it back to his tower, and all this without weapons and on top of it, inside restricted areas. If this quest is giving you trouble, here is a proper solution to it with the step-by-step guide on how to do it.

How to brew the fever potion during the From Whom the Bells Tolls quest

To save Sir Hans from the gallows, you'll have to find Captain Thomas in his tower. Our advice is not to waste time on anything else and to press on with this task because you have limited time to do so. As the guard who released you from the prison said, you have 12 bells to ring until Sir Hans is sent to gallows.

Do the quests and tasks for the smith until you get access to the courtyard and the smithy inside. Make a horseshoe and help the lady that stands in front of the smithy. She will give you access to the kitchen and the lockpicks, which will be needed for this quest.

After unlocking the chest in the kitchen (part of the quest), go upstairs and continue going up. You'll meet two or three guards, but they can easily be avoided if you crouch and throw rocks to distract them.

Once you reach Thomas on the top of the tower, he will be accompanied by his sister, who is treating his wounds, but the situation isn't good and he might be dead any second. She will tell you to go and find the fever potion if you can.

For this, you're going to have to go on the opposite tower inside the castle. To reach this tower, return the same way you came, avoiding guards and if you get caught, the best way is to reload the previous save and try again because fighting them will bring you no good.

If you feel like saving on a certain location and you don't have Saviour Schnapps in your inventory, just save and quit the game and launch it again; it will be saved on that particular place. Upon reaching the floor above the kitchen, where you unlocked the chest for the cook lady, continue through the door and you'll reac some sort of catwalk. Take the left path, keeping an eye on the guard located inside a guard post to the left.

Now, go all the way up, climbing several stairwells, avoiding guards like in the previous tower; only this time you'll meet a significantly greater number of them, but they can be avoided using the same distraction tactics. After you climb the set of wooden stairs and enter a small hallway, open both doors. Behind one door, you'll meet Catherine, the lady you met on the pond where your party got ambushed.

Speak with her, and if your stats are good enough, you'll be able to convince her to tell you where to find the recipe for the fever potion. If not, do not worry; you can still brew it even without her help. The place where you meet her has an alchemy bench, so you'll have to use it to make the potion.

The recipe for the potion is located inside the chest in the room, just across the hallway; however, this chest is locked tight, and you'll have to be very skilled to unlock it, meaning your thievery skills must be at least at level 15.

But if you lack the skills, you'll still be able to brew potion, even if you do not own the recipe. If you manage to unlock the chest, it's all well and good, but if you don't, here is the recipe for you. You'll need three pieces of feverfew, two pieces of ginger, and one elderberry leaf. All the herbs are located inside the chest next to the alchemy bench, and luckily, this chest can be picked very easily.

If you miss one of the ingredients, go upstairs and pickpocket a lady sitting by the desk; if you keep to the left, she won't notice you at all. Now, with all the ingredients, go to the bench and pour the wine into the cauldron. Press the inventory button when prompted and add those three ingredients to the table.

Add three pieces of feverfew to the cauldron and boil for two turns. Grind one elderberry leaf and add it to the cauldron, and finally, add two pieces of ginger. Now all that is left is to distil the concuction. Once you do this, you'll get the fever tonic and also the recipe to make more.

Now, the best strategy is to return to Thomas by sprinting all the way there. Ignore the guards; they will warn you and then start to chase you, but they won't be able to catch you. As soon as you enter Thomas's room, the cutscene will play and the quest is done.
