Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is the first Elden Ring's DLC and From Software decided to make it even better, and in many cases, harder than the base game, especially when it comes to boss fights.
The boss fight you'll encounter in Church of the Bud—the area located to the north of Belurat—is Romina, Saint of the Bud, a very formidable boss that will require true dedication to beat.
If you're finding this boss too hard and are struggling with her, here are some tips and strategies on how to approach this fight and kill her without too much of a fuss. Keep in mind that this is only one of the strategies useful if your build is dexterity or strength. If you're using some other builds, this fight can be even easier.
How to beat Romina, Saint of the Bud
As soon as you approach the arena, do some preparations first. In front of the boss fog, slightly to the right, you'll see the summon sign, where you can summon one of NPCs. We strongly recommend not doing so because summoning an NPC or even a real player will greatly reduce your damage while the damage taken stays the same. So, technically, summoning someone to this fight will just make it way harder.
If you want to use summons for this fight, summon Mimic Tear. He will give you some breathing space while the boss's focus is on him, just enough to heal or buff your weapons.
Romina uses several attacks, and all of them are devastating. Every single hit will reduce a third, sometimes even a half, of your health, so you'll have to be extra careful.
The best tip is to dodge the attacks towards her, hit using jump attack, rinse and repeat. If you're using the help of your summon, use every opportunity when the boss is focused on him to lend a couple of extra hits.
During the phase transition, when the boss loses half of her health, she will summon the exploding butterflies that deal physical and scarlet rot damage. Keep an eye on her health gauge and as it reaches approximately half, she will begin the transition. When that happens, make sure to run as far away as possible and in a place where there are no butterflies. If you're caught in their explosion, it is game over.
In the second phase, Romina will have some extra plunging, scarlet rot attacks, where she lands three aerial strikes, and after the third one, she will summon butterflies that will explode. Make sure not to be lured into attacking her after the third plunge.
One more tip that can be of huge importance and can even be a game-changer and decisive element in this fight is that you should stay as close to the boss as possible because most of her weapon attacks are useless and will probably miss you if you stay close to her. So, whenever you dodge, dodge into her and not to the side or away from her. Simply, the closer you are to her, the safer.
This fight is like a dance; learn how to dodge attacks and stay in synch with her movements, and you are golden. Even if she hits you, do not panic. back away, heal, and continue the fight; you'll eventually beat her. Good luck, Tarnished!
