Commander Gaius is a boss you'll encounter inside the secret area called Scaduview, located all the way to the north in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. To access this area, you'll have to go through the flooded Shadow Keep area, and getting there could be very tricky.
If you, by chance or by exploring Shadow Keep, stumbled across this boss, you've probably noticed that this fight is ridiculously hard because the commander rides a very fast and aggressive mount and his attacks are devastating. You do not even have time to summon your Mimic Tear because, as soon as you try to do so, you'll be caught by his devastating attacks and reduced to dust.
However, there is a way to beat this boss without even breaking a sweat—all you'll need is one remembrance weapon and the right positioning. So, without further ado, let's begin.
How to cheese Commander Gaius
Before starting the fight, let's make some preparations. First, you'll need Mohg's unique weapon, called Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear. To get this weapon, you must go to the Roundtable Hold, speak to Finger Reader Enia, and exchange Mohg's remembrance for his weapon. Once you do that, go to a blacksmith and upgrade it to the max.
This weapon requires 27 Arcane, so if you do not have this much in your build, go to Rennala in Raya Lucaria Grand Library and respec. Upon doing so, return to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate grace and enter the arena. As soon as you're inside, run to the left and hide behind the wall. The first Commander Gaius's attack will be to charge towards you, and doing so, he will get kind of stuck.
To win this fight, you'll have to use Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear's special attack (press L2/LT on your controller). When the boss manages to unstuck, go to the opposite side of the wall, avoiding his attacks, and do the same. Do this a couple of times, and he will be defeated.
Those attacks use mana, so make sure to allocate some of your flask power to the Flask of Cerulean Tears and use it once you're low on mana.
