The latest DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, is already the best-rated DLC of all time, with nothing but the pure tens given by critics and players alike. This From Software's action RPG was game of 2022, and its first DLC might very easily be the game of 2024.
From Software really didn't reinvent the wheel with Shadow of the Erdtree; all they did was make improvements to an already fantastic game and enrich already very rich content.
Among the mentioned content are the ashes—special collectibles that you can use as summons in the areas that are predetermined for that. Of course, the base game contained a lot of ashes, and in the DLC, we are introduced to new ones. In this guide, we will show you how to find the Black Knight Commander Andreas ashes.
As was the custom in the base game, some very tough enemies can be summoned for help if you manage to find their ashes. As soon as you start playing the DLC, one very tough foe will be introduced to you, and that is the one wielding a huge mace and shield—you'll meet one just before the boss in Belurat, and many of them later in the game.
This enemy is called Black Knight Commander Andreas, and his ashes can be found inside the Fog Rift Catacombs. These catacombs are located to the north of Fog Rift Fort. Pass under the wooden bridge while avoiding enemies throwing fire projectiles ate you. Keep going downhill, and soon you'll be ambushed by the Imp enemies and a red bear. The entrance to the catacombs is at the end of this path. See the map below for reference.
Once inside, explore the catacombs, and you'll eventually come to a staircase with three soldiers—two axe wielders and one spear wielder—and Black Knight Commander Andreas with his back turned. Use ranged attacks to lure the soldiers and pick them up one by one. Lastly, sneak up on the Black Knight and backstab him to easily defeat him.
Once he is dealt with, pick up the item he was guarding and exit this room. As soon as you exit it, turn left and approach the closest edge. You'll notice a trap with spikes going up and down—the one you successfully passed earlier. Once it is down, jump on it and look up. You'll see a passage you can go through. Do it, follow the path, and at the end of it, you'll find a sarcophagus with the ashes inside.
