In anticipation of Elden Ring's first DLC arrival, fans will want to know how and from where they can access this new content. In this guide, we will explain just that.

Elden Ring, the game of the year in 2022 and one of the best action RPGs made by From Software to date, is a game that won over many gamers' hearts, and now, two years later, we will be getting its first DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.

As it is customary with all From Software's games, their DLCs are accessed from a certain point within the game, and if you've played the base game and progressed through several areas, it is highly likely that you will be able to access this particular area and experience the DLC from the very launch day.

In anticipation of Shadow of the Erdtree's arrival, it is only natural to prepare yourself for the DLC, first by checking out if this particular area is accessible to you, and second, to familiarise yourself with the game and to return that muscle memory and feeling to your fingers. So, if you're wondering how to access the DLC once it arrives on June 21, we have all the answers for you.

How and where to access Shadow of the Erdtree DLC within the game

As confirmed by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself, Shadow of the Erdtree will feature a complete new part of the map and will be accessible through the area called Mohgwyn Palace. For those unfamiliar, this is the underground location where you'll face one of the hardest bosses of the game, Mohg, Lord of Blood. Given that this area is supposed to be accessed quite late in the game, it is very high-level, and the enemies will obliterate you if you go here under levelled, so keep this in mind.

To access Mohgwyn Palace, you will have to progress through the story and enter the Giants Mountaintop area, which is one of the latest areas in the game. Here, you can find a place called Consecrated Snowfields, and inside this place is a secret waygate that you can use to warp to the Mohgwyn Palace. Once you're there, you will have to go all the way to the end and face Mohg, Lord of Blood. Once he's delt with, a new secret gateway will appear through which you'll be able to access the DLC area.

However, there is a way to access Mohgwyn Palace very early in the game through the White Mask Varre's questline. Varre is a guy you meet at the very beginning of the game, the first time you enter Limgrave. He stands by the First Steps grace. Once you finish his questline, he will give you the Pureblood Knight's Medal, which you can use to teleport directly to Mohgwyn Palace.

To finish his quest, only two areas will be required: Limgrave and Liurnia of the Lakes, which are the first two areas of the game. However, you must keep in mind that Mohgwyn Palace is a late-game area and the required level is between 110 and 120, so if you're underleveled, it is highly likely that you'll be underleveled for the DLC too.

And there you have it. This is the way to get yourself prepared for the upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. If you have anything left to do before the DLC kicks off, now is the time. Happy hunting, Tarnished!
