Graveyard Keeper hits alpha version and it's positively griping

If you want us to liken Graveyard Keeper to something you've played before, we'd have to point out the usual suspects like Farmville and Stardew Valley. We wouldn't do it justice though, because Graveyard Keeper is infinitely more complex.

I dove into Graveyard Keeper's alpha version head first, expecting your standard run of the mill farming sim, only with a grave twist. Boy was I wrong. You could say I was dead wrong.

Developer Lazy Bear Games made sure that Graveyard Keeper offered everything you'd find in Stardew Valley and Farmville and more. So much more in fact that any comparison sounds like comparing Polytopia to Civilization.

I will do my best to avoid any sort of story related spoilers, because Graveyard Keeper is too good not to be experienced first hand. What I can tell you is that it's not just about graveyards - the game actually has complex tech trees, which should say enough.

Yes, you heard that right, tech trees, as in plural. Graveyard Keeper is a big boy farming sim, sporting complex resource and crafting systems, intricately woven tech tree progression and a hilariously dark storyline. Development of Graveyard Keeper's story honestly made me chuckle quite a few times, hence my reluctance to spoil anything.

Graveyard Keeper's ultimate goal of course is for your graveyard to thrive. Try and repeat that in your head now. You'll be making business alliances in the most strangest of ways and exploring mysterious dungeons, all across a beautifully rendered pixelated world.

The developer calls it the "most inaccurate medieval cemetery management sim of the year", although we weren't really going to question its historical credibility. Ultimately, Graveyard Keeper is a game of capitalism, where you'll be looking to rake in as much dough, both figuratively and literally.

Lazy Bear's Graveyard Keeper is currently in alpha and seems to be running just fine, as much as we've played it. Which is not nearly enough to be honest and yours truly is already firing it up. C'mon, it's a graveyard simulator.
