It has been confirmed by Electronic Arts that there will be no The Sims 5. Instead, the future of the game involves continuous updates with The Sims 4 and additional projects across other platforms.
This was further explained by Kate Gorman, the head of The Sims brand. The publisher wants players to keep evolving with the families and generations they have built in The Sims 4 and without resetting progress by beginning a new game.
However, EA has been teasing something labeled as "Project Rene," which many thought was The Sims 5. Well, that's not a new instalment, but rather a multiplayer feature to be championed-something the series hasn't seen in almost 20 years.
Although it is still unclear whether this multiplayer mode will be a separate game or integrated into The Sims 4, more details are expected soon.
Other news includes that The Sims 4 is getting a new feature called "Creator Kits." It will let the gamers design their own in-game items-from clothes and furniture up to other things-and sell these created designs in return for real money. How exactly it will be implemented was not yet fully disclosed.
Finally, EA has confirmed that a Sims movie is coming via Amazon MGM Studios. Kate Herron has been lined up to helm the flick. EA wants the movie to be as iconic as its franchise and culturally relevant, hoping it will find enthusiasm similar to last year's Barbie movie.
It remains unclear if the movie releases in theaters or directly on streaming.
