Path of Exile: Incursion will arrive on Friday, 01 June 2018 for PC and a week later for Xbox One. Grinding Gear Games have announced the expansion involve players going back through time to the point of construction of Temple Atzoatl.

Path of Exile: Incursion's time travel will send players 1000 years into the past to revisit the long-dead Vaal Empire, which was featured in Path of Exile's first expansion, Sacrifice of the Vaal back in 2014.

Vaal wasn't just a sacrificial ground though, as it also hosted the fabled treasure temple of Atzoatl, that was lost to the world for thousands of years. As any responsible citizen of Wraeclast would do, players will set out on a journey through time in order to murder thousands of enemies and loot their sacred temples.

Alva Valai is a relic hunter that will be introduced with the expansion and she has learned that she can locate the ruins of the Atzoatl temple in present day by sending players back through time via Temporal Incursions. Players arrive during the time the temple was being built and can determine which rooms in the temple will be completed and which ones are not. These decisions will alter the way the temple looks in present day.

Players will be able to do this by opening doors in the temple and slaying Vaal Architects and then modify or upgrade rooms in the future. These modifications and upgrades are apparently a double-edged sword, since Grinding Gear Games claim that "upgraded rooms confer great risks alongside their great rewards".

Players' time in the past will be time limited and the only way to extend it is laying waste to anything that moves. Each time players invade the temple's construction site in the past, Alva will come closer to locating its ruins in the present.
