Epic Games have released a new skin for their ridiculously popular Fortnite Battle Royale but apparently even they do not know the full extent of their game's popularity yet. The game's store crashed, shortly after the skin's announcement.

Epic Games first leaked the skin at the end of March, around the same time v3.4.1 update was about to land. The speculation about the skin's potential release date fired up immediately, and as most players guessed - it came out in early April. What they couldn't guess in their wildest dreams was that they will toss enough money at the skin that the in-game store will become unstable.

The skin's release was announced on 05 April 2018 at 17:01 PDT for USA or 06 April 00:01 GMT for Europe which sent the players into a buying frenzy.

Raven Outfit's price was set at 2.000 V-Bucks. Translated into real life currency it would sit at £15 or $20 USD, which is a price that would normally send players packing since this is just a virtual outfit in a game. Not in Fortnite's case. It appears that the number of players that stormed the in-game shop with their wallets in hand was high enough to cause technical difficulties for the servers, eventually rendering it unable to shell out V-Bucks until things returned to normal.

It took players only 38 minutes to throw enough money at Epic Games to make them virtually pass out, which they indirectly confirmed with a tweet updating the players on the store status.

The hype for the new skin didn't only cause trouble for the in-game store, as r/FortNiteBR's moderators had to jump in and clean the subreddit of two dozen Raven-related threads that popped up within three minutes of the skin's release. These threads didn't get completely obliterated, but more like merged into the skin's megathread, which you can see at this link .
