Former CD Projekt Red developers have formed a brand new studio named Rebel Wolves. The studio is currently working on an Unreal Engine 5 dark fantasy RPG.
Rebel Wolves is the name of a brand new studio formed by ex CD Projekt Red executive Konrad Tomaszkiewicz who worked on The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and Thronebreaker among other titles.
Rebel Wolves will be working on RPGs as they aim to become "the holy grail of computer RPGs." Their first project sounds pretty exciting, it's a dark fantasy setting RPG built with Epic's latest iteration of Unreal Engine 5.
The team shared the first concept art for the game, which you can check out above. The goal with the new game is to capture the feeling of a pen and paper RPG session where player choices matter.
"We want to experiment, push the envelope, discover new ways for telling stories in the video game medium. We felt that starting a new company, where we call all the shots, will give us the freedom to take the necessary risks to fulfil these ambitions," Tomaszkiewicz told gamesindustry.
Tomaszkiewicz also mentioned CD Projekt Red, saying that they are grateful for the opportunities they've got there but the publisher works with already established IP while he and the team are keen to create their own stories and smaller games with smaller teams.
Rebel Wolves' new game is still probably years away so don't expect to see it anytime soon. The team is currently in a hiring process so it will take a while before full production on the game is a thing.
Still, we're pretty excited to see what the team have in store given their role in critically acclaimed titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
