Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are hoping that news will be dropping soon for its first major expansion, Sea of Sorrow. This follows a recent tease from developer Team Cherry, which has reignited speculation that a reveal may be on the way.
While nothing has been confirmed at this time, there’s a strong possibility that we could see more information shared within the next few weeks. The tease in question was quite small. Matthew Griffin, a part of Team Cherry, responded to a tweet about incoming news with a singular shark emoji.
Though not an official confirmation, fans were quick to jump back into discussion over the teaser. News of Sea of Sorrow initially launched towards the end of 2025. Around that time, Team Cherry shared that development had already begun on the first major DLC pack for Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Sea of Sorrow is said to be a free expansion that all players are able to access. The update is set to release in 2026 and will focus on nautical themes. Players can expect new locales, bosses, tools, and challenges.
Details have been slim but we do know that this DLC could take players past the main locales of Pharloom. Instead, there’s a possibility that players will discover an entire new world with themes revolving around the sea. As always, Team Cherry likely won’t dive too heavily into direct storytelling.
Leaks and official news revealed that Sea of Sorrow was entering development. Now with this new tease, it’s likely we will see the official announcement of new information.
Whether that be a trailer, gameplay, or precise release window we’ll just have to wait and see. While fans would love to see a complete reveal with a set release date, it’s more likely we see smaller details dropped as development continues.
For now, fans can rest easy that development is still underway and we could see a large announcement sometime soon.
