Why Destiny 2: Lightfall cutscenes always show you with a Khvostov

Bungie explained that what the players thought was a glitch is actually a feature! Here is why you see Khvostov in all Destiny 2: Lightfall cutscenes.

Destiny 2 features cutscenes that show our character before, between and after campaign missions, which obviously presents Bungie with a few problems.

One of them was the "hat or not hat" question when the Guardians started appearing without helmets and as it turned out, the devs did this for players who choose to have the helmet off in non-combat areas.

Meanwhile, not showing the weapon you have equipped is a bit off-putting as our Guardians are suddenly using the first weapon we receive in the game, Khvostov 7G-02.

The reason Bungie did this is fairly simple - they had to cut corners . Animation teams were already overwhelmed with cinematics and other work so having to animate different weapons separately would be too much.

For example, you can remember cutscenes from previous campaigns showing the actual weapon we have equipped but the animations for an auto rifle or a sidearm would be the same.

Now imagine what it looks like when you have a bow or a glaive equipped and you get a bona fide mess that would require more animation work than the studio could allocate for the Lightfall campaign.

Bungie chose Khvostov as the single weapon Guardians are shown with since everyone is familiar with it. After all, that auto rifle is the first thing we looted in Destiny 2.
