Dontnod Entertainment have announced a content update that is supposed to come at a later point during summer 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It should bring new game difficulty modes that emphasize challenge or storytelling.

According to the official announcement, the narrative-driven action RPG Vampyr will get one difficulty mode that will make it even more narrative-driven. It will be called Story mode and will allow players to experience Dr. Reid's story with much less challenging combat.

It might ruin the story though, as Reid will not be forced to drink up enough locals to actually change the story, which might make it rather linear, unless players decide to deliberately change the outcome.

The other mode will be aimed at hardcore players who are looking for a challenge. Hard mode will make combat "much more difficult" and players will receive less experience from killing enemies, which might have exactly the opposite effect of Story mode. Needless to say, it will make us players suck more than usual.

It will be interesting to see how hard this mode will actually be and if some senpai will manage to eke out the best ending possible, without having to collapse city districts because they had to munch on too many civilians.

As said previously, both Story and Hard mode will present a new challenge for Dontnod Entertainment, each of which will require new adjustments to story parameters if they want to keep the branching options open for all players. Then again, they might just let it slide - let hardcore players have their fun with combat and story enthusiasts fun with manipulating the consequences.

This announcement came with a new 25 per cent off sale on Vampyr, which is apparently an incentive to bring in new blood to the vampire fest. The sale will last until Monday, 30 July 2018, which might prove to be problematic for some who are waiting their paychecks on 01 August. Whoopsie.
