Microsoft-owned Turn 10 Studios has confirmed it will no longer add new cars, tracks, features, or bug fixes to their sim racing title Forza Motorsport as the team transitions to full development on the upcoming Forza Horizon 6, which is schedueld to launch in 2026. Forza Motorsport will continue receiving minimal support through rotating existing content and special events, but active development has effectively ended.
In a statement, Turn 10 explained that online servers will remain active while previously released Featured Tours and reward cars will rotate on a monthly basis until all existing content becomes available. However, the decision means outstanding bugs and performance issues will remain unaddressed, disappointing fans who hoped the game would receive continued polish and expansion.
The announcement follows reports that Microsoft significantly reduced Turn 10's workforce earlier this year, with the studio reportedly cut in half. The restructuring appears to have forced the team to consolidate efforts on Forza Horizon 6 rather than supporting both franchises simultaneously.
Forza Motorsport's 2023 reboot struggled to gain traction, facing criticism at launch for lacking a proper single-player career mode and sufficient content compared to previous entries. Player counts never reached expectations, contributing to what many fans now view as a premature end to support. Across social media and gaming forums, the racing community has expressed frustration, with many calling it a "missed opportunity" and a "Microsoft fumble."
Critics argue the game showed potential that could have been realised with continued updates addressing its deficiencies. Recent update that added the iconic Fujimi Kaido track was a big step in the right direction.
The early cessation of support means Forza Motorsport will likely remain in its current state indefinitely, with known issues left unresolved as Turn 10 concentrates resources on the more commercially successful Horizon series.
The decision highlights the challenges facing Microsoft's racing portfolio, with Turn 10 forced to choose between maintaining two franchises or betting entirely on Forza Horizon 6's success. For Motorsport fans hoping the sim racer would receive the long-term support needed to fulfil its promise, the news marks a disappointing conclusion to what was meant to be a franchise revival.
