It has been really busy at Microsoft today, with many reports saying that this huge company is making probably one of the biggest job cuts in its long history. According to reports, jobs at Microsoft will lose more than 9,000 people across many sectors, including many studios working on the titles that are about to be released even in the current year.
For instance, the reports claim that Microsoft's Turn 10 Studios, responsible for creating Forza games, will be "cut down to half", where approximately half of its personnel will lose their jobs.
However, this is not the end for the bad news. We previously reported about shutting down the entire studio, The Initiative, resulting in the cancellation of the previously announced Perfect Dark Reboot, along with cutting down the collaboration with another studio, Crystal Dynamics.
Apart from this, several studios involved in the development of the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 are also heavily hit by those job cuts. It is confirmed that specifically Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software will withhold the greatest losses. Namely, those two studios will be highly affected by the latest Microsoft layoffs, and it remains to be seen how this new situation will affect the development of Black Ops 7.
In any case, 9,000 is an imposing number, and many comments on social media go exactly towards people who are about to lose their jobs. Microsoft are justifying those layoffs by focusing on better organisation and as a result, delivering better games and better results in the upcoming years. However, those are human jobs and existence we're talking about, so our thoughts are with the people who are affected by those job cuts.
