Turn 10 Studios revealed a bunch of exciting new information during the latest episode of Forza Monthly, including new details on tire compounds, AI improvements and physics systems that should make the driving experience more realistic than in previous Forza Motorsport games.
Sadly, we also got some bad news that will certainly disappoint many racing fans who are eagerly awaiting the new Forza. Creative Director Chris Esaki confirmed in the live stream and then in the follow-up blog post that Forza Motorsport will launch without drag and drift modes.
Esaki explained that the dev team prioritised development efforts on circuit racing and that focus impacted the entire game from cars and tracks to new features, meaning that the team does not have enough time to implement drift and drag modes for launch.
"We’ve prioritized our development efforts on circuit racing with modern race cars and modern production cars," Esaki explained in the blog post. "With that in mind, we want to let you know we will not have drag or drift game modes available at release."
Forza Motorsport will launch with drag tires and drift suspension though, which will be available as car upgrades, allowing you to enjoy them in experiences like private meetup lobbies.
The good news is that drift and drag modes seem to be planned for release in post-launch updates. We don't know whether both will be coming soon after the release but it's safe to assume that we'll be waiting for at least several months until these popular modes arrive to Forza Motorsport.
It's certainly disappointing that a major racing title in 2023 launches without drag and drift modes, especially Forza Motorsport, which has been hailed by Xbox and Turn 10 as a true next-gen racing sim. We'd argue that players would rather have more racing modes than some cars but it is what it is. Guess we'll just have to wait for these modes to be added to the game.
Forza Motorsport launches on PC and Xbox Series X|S on October 10, 2023.
