Treyarch's Matt Scronce and Yale Miller recently spoke of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode called Blackout, saying they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't think they could do it best and better than everyone else.

I kid you not, that was pretty much a direct quote. Nevertheless, Treyarch think that they can do a better job with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale than Epic did with Fortnite and PUBG Corp with PUBG. Apparently, they think their track record will be enough to carry the mode through.

"We've got a huge library of content, ten years of history, we've got the best gunplay out there, we've got the best movement, so we're not too worried about it", they said. Of course, the huge library and a history to match are more of a guarantee of making plenty of money than of rolling out a quality title.

Treyarch claim that the new Blackout mode will feature more players than any Call of Duty before it, even though they're uncertain at the moment how many is that exactly. Apparently, they will let other factors decide the exact number, such as engagement frequencies and whatnot.

To be fair to Treyarch, they did tone down their arrogance a bit later in the interview, adding that there's no reason why multiple games cannot coexist. They gave an example of Battlefield and Call of Duty franchises, which have almost earned themselves Coke vs. Pepsi status by now, yet both games continue to thrive.

As we , Call for Duty: Black Ops 4's mode Blackout will take place on a map the size of 1,500 Nuketowns and will come with all sorts of vehicles, land, sea and air. As far as loot boxes are concerned, the jury is apparently still out. Treyarch says both them and Activision haven't really thought about it, choosing instead to focus on everything running well at launch.
