Creative Assembly already said that Total War: Three Kingdoms was off to a great start but now we've got numbers as the latest instalment in the franchise is quickly becoming the most successful one, which is great news for the developer.
Having launched exactly one week ago, Total War: Three Kingdoms is already up to 1 million sold copies.
The developer's statements indicate it has overtaken Total War: Warhammer, which was the previous fastest-selling franchise game with 500,000 copies sold.
At the time of writing this piece, Total War: Three Kingdoms is still in the same place among the most popular 10 played games on Steam, with a daily peak of 161,000 and 100,000 playing it currently.
Creative Assembly's chief product officer Rob Bartholomew said, "We knew we had something special with Three Kingdoms but the response from players, old and new, has exceeded all expectations."
Deciding to base their game on two most prominent records of the Three Kingdoms era, one highly romanticised and the other more historical, and working them into the game as difficulty levels is working like a charm, and they've incorporated this in their plans too.
Post-launch DLC for Total War: Three Kingdoms will be based on Luo Guanzhong's Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the romanticised one, and it brings new start positions, new and familiar characters, features and objectives, etc.
"In terms of 'size' of content, you can expect a Chapter Pack to be somewhere between a Culture Pack and a Campaign Pack. There will be a serious clutch of new playable factions and a raft of new mechanics to get to grips with in each, while you'll be playing across all of China", Creative Assembly said.
