The Division 2's road is mostly paved by The Division activities that offer rewards for the sequel and Intelligence Annex entries. Ubisoft now provided more insight into the fresh new skills of The Division 2 via the latter method.
The Division 2 will have five skills - Chem Launcher, Drone, HIVE, Turret and Seeker Mine. Most of the player base of the original game feared that The Division 2 PvP might suffer from endless healing skills and consumables as well, but it's currently unknown whether the developers took note of this as there are many healing skills involved. However, they might be mutually exclusive for the most part so everyone except the Survivalist can carry only one healing skill.
Chem Launcher will feature four modifications:
- Firestarter which will release a cloud that can be ignited,
- Riot Foam that will be used to immobilise enemies,
- Oxidizer which will be used to eat away at enemy armour over time, and
- Reinforcer, which will be one of the two healing abilities - it will repair allied agents' armour.
Drone will have five modfications:
- Striker is a modification that will make it a flying turret,
- Defender will be essentially a mobile protective field that will block incoming projectiles,
- Tactician is the Sharpshooter-exclusive modification and it will act much like Pulse in The Division,
- Bombardier will let you do exactly what it says - bombing runs via a drone strike,
- Fixer will repair your armour or of any ally you send the drone to.
HIVE will feature four mods:
- Stinger's micro-drones will target the weak spots on enemies, so completing those challenges will be easier than ever,
- Restorer will repair any broken ally armour it detects,
- Booster will act much like Tactical Link in The Division - increasing weapon stability, accuracy etc.,
- Reviver will revive players. Who would have thought?
Seeker mine is an old fan-favourite and it will have more uses now:
- Explosive will be the standard explosion seen in The Division,
- Airburst will let the mine approach an enemy, launch an explosive charge into the air and explode at head height for maximum damage,
- Mender will make the mine seek out allies whose armour has been destroyed and then repair it. This is the specialisation-exclusive ability that lets Survivalist carry two healing skills, making it the only specialisation that can do this.
- Cluster is a MIRV-style explosion modification that will make a pile of smaller charges explode in large area
Turret is the second familiar skill returning in The Division 2 with four modifications:
- Assault will be the basic automated turret that will attack the closest enemy to it, in any direction,
- Incinerator will swap out basic bullets for a flamethrower for more crowd control,
- Sniper will fire slower than Assault, but it will track your aim and shoot at the same target,
- Artillery will be a Demolitionist-exclusive modification that will make the turret fire explosive shells in an arc.
You can find detailed information on the official developer blog , along with the disclaimer that all these abilities are a subject to change. One interesting detail on the site is that there will apparently be even more skills in the future. When it comes to healing in PvP, it shouldn't be as egregious as it was in The Division, since players can't pop a medkit on the go, and will have to seek cover in order to safely swap an armour plate.
Limiting them to just one healing skill, except the Survivalist would also prevent the firefights from lasting longer than the Netherlands vs Scilly war . Oddly enough, it seems like the turret will be quite useful for Sharpshooters, who might be able to use the Sniper modification to amplify the high damage of their anti-materiel rifle.
Whatever turns out to be the case, these basic explanations of the skills hint at a more dynamic game. Let's hope bullet sponging will also be toned down.
