One of the upcoming new features on Steam will be video recording of games, as is already used on consoles. In the future, Steam will have a built-in option to (background) record video while playing, edit the recorded video, and share it directly on Steam.
It's a possibility that has existed on consoles for ten years, and for some reason we're still waiting for it on Steam. Honestly, there are already numerous ways to record and share game clips on the PC platform.
Ever since Windows 10, there has been a built-in possibility for this, and Nvidia and AMD have more advanced solutions in their software packages.
Some will therefore say that something like this is unnecessary for Steam, but on the other hand it is not bad that Steam is becoming a destination with everything a PC gamer might need.
After all, it seems that Steam's video recording and editing system will come with some special features. Namely, video recording in supported games will come with tags for ingame events, so the user will be able to see in the video bar which are the parts where something significant happened without having to view the entire video.
To be honest, this option is great for Steam Deck players, as I think one of the main reasons of adding this feature are, in fact, Steam Deck users. There is a lot of interest for it in the community.
When you play on a PC, you never think how it would be great if there was a built-in recording software because the problem is already solved as you have many other recording apps that you can use, while on the other hand you notice exactly the same thing on the Steam Deck, it's a feature that's missing.
It is not yet known when this option will become available to all Steam users.
