The latest feature on the Steam platform is “Game Recording” option and as the name itself says – it allows making videos from the games you play and subsequently editing and sharing them without the need for accompanying tools.
The option to record video from games on Steam is now in beta testing and is available for all interested players. As for the Steam Deck, the Game Recording option is also available on that device.
The Game Recording feature brings a built-in system for recording, editing and sharing videos on Steam, without the need for any additional tools. Recording works similarly to PlayStation and Xbox consoles: it can work in the background or be manually triggered.
Unlike other tools with a similar purpose, Steam has several advantages and benefits in video recording. For example, it will automatically mark you for all games in the recordings when you achieve an achievement.
In the event that the game has special support for Game Recording, the system will automatically add event markers according to the content, and the moments when the recording contains time spent in the menu, lobby and pure gameplay will be marked with a different texture in the video bar.
The recording can be edited (cut / shortened) and then saved as a video file or sent directly to friends on Steam. It is also possible to send it to a mobile phone, Steam Deck or another device, as well as create a link to share video content.
It will be a while before Game Recording becomes a standard feature on Steam, but you can access it now by signing up for beta testing in Steam's settings.
