Starfield leads September game sales in the US, becoming the seventh best-selling game of 2023 in just a few weeks.

Even though Starfield was never going to be the best-selling game of the year simply due to the fact that it launched on Xbox Game Pass, it still managed to reach an impressive milestone, ranking on number one in-game sales charts in the US for the month of September.

According to video game industry analyst Matt Piscatella, Starfield is the seventh best-selling game of the year, ranking as the best-selling game of September with the PC platform leading the sales.

"Starfield was the best-selling game of September, instantly becoming the 7th best-selling game of 2023 year-to-date. Starfield ranked as the best-selling title of the month across both Xbox and PC, with PC being its lead sales platform," Piscatella posted on X.

Games that sold more copies than Starfield in 2023 so far include Hogwarts Legacy, Tears of the Kingdom and Diablo 4 to name a few. Here's the full top ten list of best-selling games in the US in 2023:

Starfield is a massive success for Bethesda and Xbox, as expected

Industry analyst John Welfare adds that Bethesda never had a number-one ranking title before Starfield. Skyrim and Fallout 4 launched at second while Oblivion and Fallout 3 were third.

All in all, this is certainly a big success for Starfield in terms of generated revenue even though a major chunk of potential sales were taken by Game Pass. That's not a bad thing per se, as Microsoft have different metrics to value success over Game Pass and sales.
