Update:
As we suspected, the deleted tweet was actually written by mistake; that's why it was deleted so quickly. Bethesda actually informed users, this time on a different Twitter account, that all physical editions will contain discs, so fans and collectors have nothing to worry about.
It looks like the upcoming Xbox exclusive Starfield will join the trend where the physical edition of the game doesn't actually come with the physical disc but only with the game code.
A user who inquired about whether the game's physical standard edition will come with a disc received the following confirmation from Bethesda on their official Twitter account: "All physical editions include a code for a chosen platform; there are no physical discs."
Bethesda quickly removed this comment from Twitter after it was published, but you are aware of the rule that once anything is put online, removing it doesn't help. Therefore, someone was able to screenshot this response and share it on Reddit.
According to comments on social media, particularly Reddit, fans, and especially collectors, are incredibly miffed by this move from Bethesda. One Reddit user commented: "So you're just paying for a big empty plastic box, aight." while the other one said: "Physical boxes without physical discs are so meaningless. You might as well buy digital from the Xbox Store."
All things considered, fans are not happy, but given that the comment was removed promptly as soon as it started to receive negative feedback, there is still hope that it was posted by mistake. In any case, we'll find out the real truth on September 6, 2023, when Starfield will be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
