The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda's next massive open-world RPG that is coming after their sci-fi epic Starfield, probably won't launch until we get our hands on the next generation of consoles. According to Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer, The Elder Scrolls 6 is so far out that Xbox don't even know if they'll launch it on the current gen Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Spencer testified at the second round of the FTC v Microsoft hearing today, where the FTC lawyers asked him about the exclusivity deals that Xbox made after acquiring Bethesda. When asked about The Elder Scrolls 6 and whether this major RPG will be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem, Spencer replied that The Elder Scrolls 6 is "five plus years" away from launch so he can't really tell what platforms will the game support.
Obviously, Spencer tried to dodge the question to make it look like Xbox is not pulling games from the PlayStation platform, but we all know that The Elder Scrolls 6 will indeed be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem, which includes PC and Xbox consoles.
Spencer's words certainly won't come as a surprise to anyone who knows how Bethesda make video games. The studio take their time with each release and that will surely be the case with The Elder Scrolls 6, too. Bethesda previously said that only after their work on Starfield is done, they will focus on their globally popular epic fantasy franchise.
If The Elder Scrolls 6 arrives sometime in 2028 or 2029, it could end up being a launch exclusive for the next Xbox console as Microsoft expect the next generation of consoles in 2028. Now, wouldn't that be a system seller? Add a completely new Halo game and Xbox Series X 2, or whatever the next console is called, will be flying off the shelves.
The wait for the Elder Scrolls 6 will be a long one but we're getting a major new IP from Bethesda in just a couple of months so that should keep us occupied for at least a couple of years, given the scope of Starfield is really unprecedented.
