Now, rumours have surfaced about Ubisoft's new multiplayer game in the Assassin's Creed franchise, claiming it could be a Fall Guys-like format.
While Ubisoft has already worked on two new single-player adventures within the Assassin's Creed series, it's reportedly working on a number of multiplayer Assassin's Creed games, of which Invictus is said to be the codename for one.
Major Assassin's Creed games have always included either competitive or co-op multiplayer components, along with larger titles. If true, Invictus would be the first stand-alone multiplayer of the franchise, so right now it's under the spotlight of rumours.
According to prolific leaker xJ0nathan - who has provided trustworthy insider information on Assassin's Creed games in the past - the game of Invictus may be similar in genre to the very popular Fall Guys format.
The title is said to feature support for 16 players and include arcade-style gameplay with fast movement. Essentially, players would be racing toward glowing parts of a map, with the slowest being eliminated each round.
Between rounds, players were able to select from a variety of powers with which to customize their builds, adding some serious strategic depth to the fast-paced action.
The maps will reportedly take inspiration from a wide range of iconic locations from previous Assassin's Creed titles, and so far, characters like Ezio Auditore and Cesare Borgia have been said to be playable.
It yet remains to be seen whether the new direction will sit well with series fans, but it does hold promise of bringing some fresh and fun air into the mix. Now, all we have to do is wait for confirmation from Ubisoft that this indeed sets the stage for the rumours.
