Hell is Us was one of the titles at the recent PlayStation State of Play that really intrigued me with its unique setting and some gameplay concepts that we usually don't get that often from modern video games.
Following that short reveal trailer at Sony's show, developer Rogue Factor and publisher Nacon revealed in-depth gameplay footage of the game, followed by the developer commentary that helps explain some of the game's features.

Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, Creative Director and Art Director for the game talked more about the "no quest marks or map" idea that the game utilises and how they've replaced that with objects in the world to make the exploration feel more natural.
So for example, in one of the early quests, an NPC will tell you to follow wind chimes in the woods to get to your objective, instead of just getting a quest marker that points you in the right direction. The devs say they wanted to move away from the traditional "everything on a silver platter" design so players will need to listen to the NPCs, and use the objects in the world and their compass item to find their way towards the objective.
In terms of the story, Hell is Us takes place in a fictional country called Hadea, a hermit nation ravaged by civil war. Players are put in the boots of Remi, who was born in this country, and after many years abroad decides to return to his homeland to find answers about his past.
The devs also showcased some combat and stated that their game won't be a souls-like title per se but that it's still a challenging game without being "overly punitive". There's your standard set of weapons and skills but the devs also showcased a drone that can help you distract and stun enemies in combat.
All in all, I must admit that I'm only getting increasingly excited for Hell is Us as everything I've seen so far looks very appealing.
Hell is Us is scheduled to launch sometime in 2025 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
