Last night during the PlayStation State of Play, we got our first look at the next Silent Hill game called Townfall, which is shaking up one of horror gaming's most iconic franchises in a major way - going fully first-person for the first time in the series' history.
Konami's reveal trailer shows black male protagonist Simon Ordell navigating the fog-drenched island of St. Amelia entirely through his own eyes, a perspective shift that draws immediate comparisons to competitors Resident Evil 7 and Village. The parallel is hard to ignore.
Capcom's decision to go first-person with Resident Evil 7 back in 2017 reinvigorated that franchise, delivering some of the most claustrophobic and terrifying moments in modern horror gaming. Konami appears to be taking notes, betting that first-person Silent Hill can achieve something similarly transformative.
Heavy fog takes over a small Scottish island
Simon is called back to St. Amelia, a cold and isolated Scottish island, to "put things right." The town lies quiet beneath heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but, as the trailer makes clear, very much not at rest.
Fragments of a buried past begin rising to the surface as Simon ventures deeper into the mystery surrounding his connection to the place. Gameplay blends exploration, evasion, and survival using a limited set of weapons and tools. The standout addition is the CRTV, a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals - a distinctly Silent Hill way of interacting with the supernatural.
Combat is described as frenetic whilst evasion remains tense, with narrative-driven puzzles threaded throughout.
Set against Scotland in 1996, Townfall is a full-length, self-contained story rather than a continuation of existing Silent Hill lore, giving newcomers an accessible entry point into the series.
Silent Hill: Townfall launches in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
