A demo for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake will launch on 5th March 2026, one week before the full game's release. The announcement comes alongside news of a Silent Hill f collaboration and a new trailer featuring Japanese artist Tsuki Amano.

If you've been eyeing Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, you'll soon get a chance to test your nerve. KOEI TECMO has confirmed that a demo drops on March 5 across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The demo arrives exactly one week before the full game launches on March 12. That's cutting it close for those who need to know whether they can handle the scares, but at least you'll have time to decide before launch.

Silent Hill Crossover and New Trailer

Alongside the demo announcement, Team NINJA revealed a collaboration with Silent Hill f, the recently-released Japan-set entry in Konami's psychological horror series. The crossover will add free collaboration costumes at a later date, though specific details are being held back for now.

To mark the start of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, a new trailer has been released featuring music from popular artist Tsuki Amano. The trailer showcases the game's haunting atmosphere and the Camera Obscura, the supernatural camera that serves as your only weapon against the village's vengeful spirits.

What's New in the Remake

The remake introduces new gameplay elements, including a brand-new ending featuring Amano's song "Utsushie," additional side stories unlocked through Broken Spirit Stones, and fresh locations like the Umbral Mound and Eikado Temple.

Combat has been expanded with Special Shots that vary depending on equipped filters. The Paraceptual Filter lets you blind spirits temporarily, whilst the Radiant Filter inflicts damage based on protagonist Mio's willpower. There's also a Photo Mode for capturing your own nightmare fuel, should you feel inclined.

Pre-order baits are available for those who are wiling to trust the publisher with their money before the reviews drop, with different items depending on whether you buy physical, digital, or spring for the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Anyone purchasing before March 25 gets the Wraith Charm and various costume pieces, whilst digital pre-orders before March 12 include outfits inspired by the original game.
