NetherRealm Studios have revealed Shao Kahn gameplay in the latest trailer, showing the fallen emperor in a new look. His iconic spear and hammer are still here though and the fatality hints he would be a golf player if not an invader.

Shao Kahn will return in Mortal Kombat 11 but it is debatable whether he will have any plot involvement since the character is a pre-order exclusive.

Regardless, it appears that whatever Elder Gods did to him at the end of Mortal Kombat 9, he managed to absorb. They manifested their power in the form of tiny ethereal dragons that kept biting the emperor and now that he's sort of back, Shao Kahn is exhibiting some dragon-like features such as different skin colour and patches of scales.

The would-be conqueror of Earthrealm retained most of his moves that were available in Mortal Kombat 11, such as the iconic slide-shove as well as spear chucking and extensive hammer usage. Spears that Shao Kahn chucks at enemies tend to stick, leading us to believe Vlad the Impaler himself would be proud, had this character not been an incentive for pre-ordering.

Two crushing blows were shown, one seemingly tied to a grab and the other one occurred after Raiden went for a session of facial therapy with Shao Kahn's hammer. As you could expect, the fatal blow is quite brutal, although not as some others we've seen so far.

On the other hand, Shao Kahn's fatality more than makes up for it, as the former-deadman-turned-dragon-hybrid expresses his love for mini-golf. His first two attempts hit Raiden's head in the wrong places, but he nails it the third time, completing a hole.

It was rather odd NetherRealm Studios released the pre-order trailer so late as there is less than a week left until Mortal Kombat 11 releases. On the other hand, it hints at a different marketing strategy, trying to reinforce pre-order numbers in the days leading up to release rather than harvesting smaller amounts of pre-orders over a long period, had the trailer been released sooner.
