The closed beta is subject to of course. Namely, you had to have joined the Sea of Thieves Insider Programme before December 2017 or pre-ordered the game, otherwise you’re stuck on the sidelines with the rest of the free to play squadron. Naturally, you’ll also need an Xbox Live subscription.
The beta will run from 12 p.m. GMT on January 24 to 8 a.m. GMT on January 29, to be exact. Note however that the beta will not be the full experience of the game as the company wants “to keep a good selection of things up our sleeves for players to discover at launch.” Thankfully, there are no non-disclosure agreements on the beta, so at least we’ll be able to see some footage online.
In anticipation of the launch, Microsoft has announced a special , priced at saucy £55, although it does come bundled with Ferryman Clothing Set DLC and 14-day trials for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass. The controller boasts a textured grip, glow in the dark skull all the bells and whistles that come with newer generation game controllers. It launches on February 6 and supports Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X.
Sea of Thieves is a Microsoft exclusive title so you can expect the beta to hit both Xbox and PC when it launches on March 20, 2018.
